In a monumental step towards electrifying mine fleets across Australia and meeting the industry’s 2030 zero-emissions targets, AUSEV’s Ford F-150 Lightning has been identified as the optimal solution in Kuuwa’s Charge Forward program. The initiative, based on a 12-month feasibility study conducted by Kuuwa Rentals in close partnership with Worley, addresses the specific challenges of electrifying mine fleets by providing all necessary components for BEV (Battery Electric Vehicle) functionality, ensuring a smooth and effective transition to sustainable mining practices.
Wes Chapman, Managing Director of Kuuwa Rentals, emphasised the significance of this achievement: “This is a major milestone in our journey to decarbonise the mining industry.” Paul Lucey, Principal Mine Electrification and Technology at Worley, echoed the sentiment, noting, “[We are] thrilled to collaborate with Kuuwa on this transformative solution.”
Sourced from Queensland-based EV distributor AUSEV, the F-150 Lightnings undergo right-hand drive conversions and customisations by Advanced Manufacturing Queensland (AMQ). These modifications ensure the vehicles are well-equipped to meet the rigorous demands of the mining sector and handle the challenging conditions of Western Australia’s mine sites.
Worley’s commitment to electrifying the mining sector is evident in their holistic approach to decarbonising operations, promising significant cost savings, carbon reductions, and improved efficiency. Additionally, Worley provides comprehensive governance and operational support, facilitating the transition to electric vehicles and paving the way for the future electrification of larger mining assets.
The Charge Forward program underscores the significant advancements being made in the industry’s push towards sustainability and zero-emissions targets, marking a pivotal step in transforming Australia’s mining operations.
